Andrew White, the CEO of CHAR, recently joined Andrew Bell, host of Commodities and Commodities Corner on BNN Bloomberg, to discuss the production of biocoal from waste wood and its use as a replacement to fossilized coal in the steel industry.
The major advantage of biocoal usage in steelmaking is that it is carbon neutral, thus drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the manufacture of steel as well as cement. Besides biocoal, the High Temperature Pyrolysis (HTP) process also generates a co-product – either renewable natural gas (RNG) and/or green hydrogen.
